Day 5 Opening Assembly

Welcome everyone to our last day of VBS! Wow! It has been so much fun exploring the sacraments with you this week. Let's dance and sing-along to a couple of our favorite songs this week, and then I'm going to show you what I have in my wilderness backpack.

Jesus, thank you for bringing us together for this week of VBS. Guide us as we learn more about the sacraments of Holy Orders and Matrimony. Bless our day and keep us always close to you. Amen.

We are featuring two different saints today: St. Gianna Beretta Molla and St. John Vianney.  (point to the posters). Let us ask them to pray for us. St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us. St. John Vianney, pray for us.

Let’s see what I have in my backpack for our two last sacraments.

Who can tell me what this is? Flashlight.

Flashlights are important to have when it’s dark and we need to find our way. A flashlight reminds us of the sacrament of Holy Orders, which is how men become priests! A priest is called to be a light to his people and to lead us to Jesus because Jesus is the light of the World!

I also packed a rope which is also good to have in the wilderness, just in case you need to tie something together. Show rope. Which sacrament does this make you think of? Marriage (matrimony)

In marriage, the husband and wife stay tied together with the love of Jesus.

Our Bible Verse today comes from the Gospel of Matthew.

“Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16
