The Chair

-Signs: “BEWARE OF SIN!” and “PURITY”
-Cell phone (for Kate)
-Headphones (for Grace)
Chairs on stage. Signs taped to the chairs, facing audience.
Kate: Walks on stage, while texting on her phone, then notices the chairs. Hmm... what are these doing here? Ignores purity chair and walks slowly around Sin chair. The sign says, BEWARE OF SIN! I wonder why it says that? It seems fine. I’m sure it will be fine if I just touch it. Touches chair with one hand and gets stuck. Tries to pull hand off. Struggles... What’s going on? I can’t seem to get off this chair. I’m stuck.
Adam: Runs on stage. Kate! What’s going on? Reads sign. Beware of sin? It can’t be that bad. Touches the other side of the chair and rubs his hand slowly on it and gets stuck.
Kate: Oh no. What have you done? Looks like we’re both stuck here now.
Daniel: Walks in. Hey, guys! What’s up?
Kate & Adam: We’re stuck.
Daniel: Stuck? Reads sign. Beware of sin! Cool, man! Touches foot on seat of chair and gets stuck. Tries to pry off foot, but nothing works. Not cool!
You can have as many people as you want added to the chair.
Kate: Hey guys, something tells me this is not a good thing. I feel really bad.
Adam: Yeah, I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, but now I see it is.
Daniel: Struggling I can’t believe this. I can’t break free.
Adam: I wish I never would’ve touched this thing. It’s worse than super glue!
Grace: Walks on stage with headphones listening to music and humming a VBS song. She sits on the Purity chair. Kate, Adam and Daniel watch her in amazement when she gets up and starts walking past them, still humming.
Kate: Hey, guys. Grace sat on that chair and didn’t get stuck. What does the sign say?
Daniel: It says Purity.
Kate: Calls out to Grace. Hey, Grace! We’re stuck here. What can we do?
Grace: Takes off her headphones. Oh hi everyone. Well, it looks like you’re pretty stuck. Have you tried asking Jesus for help?
Adam: Why didn’t I think of that?
Daniel: With hesitance. Okay. So, now what?
Grace: We can start by bowing our heads and say a prayer.
Kate: Yeah, and I plan on going to see Fr. Peter after to go to Confession.
All bow their heads.
Kate: Jesus, we’re sorry for our sins and for turning away from you. Help us to remain pure and never sin again.
Adam: Yeah, please forgive us.
Daniel: Amen to that!
Kate: Hey, I’m free. Thank you, Jesus!
Daniel & Adam: Me, too.
Kate: Thanks for your help, Grace.
Grace: No problem. You guys want to come hang out?
Kate: Oh ya! I want to get as far away from that “Sin chair” as possible.
Daniel & Adam: Hey wait up for us.
