Day 4 Skit: The Sandwich
Characters: Characters act as elementary age children.
- Sarah (confused)
- Kevin (silly)
- Hannah (smart)
Props:
- Lunch table or bench
- Sandwiches and juice boxes / lunch kits
Sarah and Kevin are sitting in the school lunch room opening up their lunches.
Sarah: What do you have for lunch?
Kevin: A sandwich
Sarah: Me too! What do you have to drink?
Kevin: Grape juice! It’s my favorite! Hannah enters the scene.
Hannah: Can I sit here?
Sarah: Yeah! Sure! Takes a bite of sandwich. Isn’t it weird? Jesus is in the bread we eat.
Hannah: (confused) What are you talking about?
Sarah: Yeah! We learned that in religion class yesterday. Jesus is really in the bread and the wine.
Kevin: (surprised) Can Jesus be in my sandwich, too?
Sarah: That sounds silly, Kevin.
Hannah: Your teacher didn’t mean ALL the bread in the world! She meant the bread that the priest uses. When the priest holds up the bread and says, “This is my body,” like Jesus did at the Last Supper. Then it’s consecrated, as the body & blood of Jesus.
Kevin: Well, my juice box is consecrated.
Hannah: (grabs juice box) No. That says CONCENTRATED, not consecrated.
Kevin: Oh, that makes sense.
Sarah: So, you mean Jesus is only present in the consecrated bread at Mass? He’s not in my sandwich?
Hannah: That’s right. Bell rings to end lunch.
Kevin: Recess! Hey, didn’t the teacher say we get to celebrate Mass tomorrow? Takes a bite of sandwich.
All get up to leave.
Hannah: Yep! Right after morning recess.
Sarah: Cool! I can’t wait!
Kevin: Runs a few steps ahead. Race you to the soccer field!
Sarah and Hannah: Hey! Wait up! All run off.
VBS LEADER: Tie in the skit with today’s theme by saying: The Mass is a sacred meal that we share together. At Mass, the bread and wine truly become The Body and Blood of Jesus. How cool is that? Very Cool!
