Day 5 Skit: I Am Called
Characters:
- MC (Main Character)
- Family (3-4 people of various ages)
- Priest
- Friends (2-3 people)
Props:
- Altar Server robe (for priest character)
- VBS saint poster (or book labeled “SAINTS” in bold letters on the cover)
- Picture of Jesus
- Baptismal Font (a big bowl filled with water and a pitcher of water)
- Football
- Bible
- Altar (table, white tablecloth and 2 candles)
- Paten w/ host made of cardboard
This skit is a pantomime (no words). Play the song I Am Called. Actors should use as much expression as possible (without over-exaggerating) to communicate the scripted scenes and actions.
INSTRUMENTAL INTRO:
MC (Main Character) enters stage left. Seems a little sad/lonely, head down, hands in pocket.
VERSE 1: "I am called to be in God’s family, that is growing and learning about the Trinity. I am called to seek the kingdom of God, I am called."
FAMILY enters stage right, having fun. Group sees MC (Main Character) and gestures for him/her to join them. MC comes over, is greeted/welcomed by the FAMILY.
VERSE 2: "I am called to look at the lives of the saints, who have lived and died for the King of kings. There’s a reason, there’s a purpose why I’m here on earth, I am called."
FAMILY shows MC saint poster and points to the picture of Jesus. MC looks at picture of Jesus with excitement. FAMILY and MC walk over to font.
1st CHORUS: "I will say yes to the call! To be a saint, I surrender all. Clothe me, with the Holy Spirit. Guide me through each moment, lived in You."
PRIEST is standing in front of baptismal font; smiling with wide open arms. MC gives the priest a big hand shake.
“I Surrender All.”
MC humbly crouches down to be baptized. Priest uses pitcher and pours water three times over MC head. Rising again, MC is looking down at self with joy feeling renewed. FAMILY is clapping, joyful, etc.
“Guide me.”
MC looks up, makes the sign of the cross and remains on stage looking up towards heaven.
INSTRUMENTAL INTRO:
FAMILY and PRIEST exit. FRIENDS enter stage left.
VERSE 3: "I am called to pray each moment of the day, when I work, when I drive and when I’m at play. I am called to live just like Jesus did, I am called."
MC notices two FRIENDS carrying a football. All gather to make the sign of the cross and bow heads in prayer. FRIENDS and MC toss the ball to each other; ending verse with high-fives. FRIENDS exit.
VERSE 4: "I am called to do what Jesus says, To believe, to trust in all of His ways. I am called to listen to the word of God, I am called."
New FRIEND comes on the scene carrying a Bible. FRIEND shows MC words in scripture. FRIEND joyfully gives Bible to MC. FRIEND exits.
2nd CHORUS: "I will say yes to the call! To be a saint, I surrender all. Clothe me, with the Holy Spirit. Guide me through each moment lived in You."
MC reads the Bible in awe, flipping pages while reading scripture, nodding head with up and down motions, kneel down in prayer with Bible.
3rd CHORUS: "I will say yes to the call! To be a saint, I surrender all. Clothe me, with the Holy Spirit. Guide me through each moment lived in You."
FAMILY, FRIENDS gather in front of altar. PRIEST stands behind the altar. MC joins FRIENDS and FAMILY.
“Guide me.” The PRIEST elevates the Host, mouthing the words “This is My Body…” and everyone else kneels. Entire scene freezes when music stops.
VBS LEADER: The Mass is a call, for each one of us to say yes to Jesus. Jesus calls us to go into the world and to be His light to others.
