Day 2 Virtue Demo: PEACE
Turn off any fans or noisy distractions in the room during this demonstration.
Demonstrate:
When I say “GO,” you are going to be as LOUD as you possibly can for 5 seconds.
You’ll have to watch me the whole time because when you see my hand go up, you STOP.
Think you can do it? Be as loud as you can, but watch for the hand. (Pause.) GO!
During the five “loud” seconds, softly speak the words “PEACE IS A GIFT.” After 5 seconds is up, raise your hand and shout “STOP!”
While you were making noise, I said something.
Did anyone hear what I said? No.
O.K. Now for the next 5 seconds you are going to be as silent as you can.
I want it to be so quiet that I can hear a flower growing. Be as silent as you can. Go.
During the five “quiet” seconds, softly speak the words “PEACE IS A GIFT.”
What did you hear me say? Listen to responses.
That’s right, peace is a gift. To be peaceful is very important. There is not enough silence in our days.
God can speak to us in the peace and quiet of our hearts. The Bible Says: “Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9
Explain:
There’s no one more powerful than God. He made everything. But God doesn’t usually choose to speak like the movies would have Him do it; no flashy lights or explosions or booming voices. We need to quiet our hearts and minds because God often chooses to speak to our hearts in a soft whisper.
We live in a very busy and noisy world. There are TVs, computers, cell phones, and loud music almost everywhere we go. Even our minds get filled up with busy and noisy thoughts.
If we want to hear God, we need to find a way to hear His still, soft voice in our hearts.
What are some ways that you can find peace and quiet in your day? Answers will vary.
The Mass is a GIFT that we’ll understand and enjoy more if we prepare ourselves to receive it.
Let’s remember to practice peace and find a few moments of quiet each day so we can better hear the voice of God.
