Music Daily Lesson Plans

Theme: Get Onboard: What is prayer?
Virtue: Responsibility (doing a job with great care and attention: being reliable and dependable)
Action Songs:
Theme Song: Radical Ride (2:43)
In the Presence of the Angels (2:15)
Bible Verse Video:
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you...” James 4:8
Theme Connections:
Radical Ride is our VBS theme song of the week. It reminds us that living a life of prayer is a Radical Ride. Prayer allows us to open our hearts to Jesus and helps us let go of anything that drags us down; like selfishness, anger and other sins. When we enter into a life of prayer, it’s like entering into a different country where we experience new, exciting and wonderful things.
In the Presence of the Angels encourages us to praise God at all times. Angels are always around us. In heaven, they sing praises to God day and night. We too should sing praises to God, for He is Holy and worthy to be praised!
Theme: Prepare for Take-Off: Learning how to pray!
Virtue: Trust (having complete confidence in a person or plan)
Action Songs:
Prepare for Take-Off (2:27)
Teach Me to Pray (2:00)
Bible Verse Video:
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Psalm 37:7
Theme Connections:
Prepare for Take-Off relates taking-off in a plane to taking-off in prayer. Just like a pilot needs to prepare his plane for takeoff and then take us to our destination, we need to prepare our hearts during prayer each day! Jesus wants to lead us during our prayer time. When we unite our hearts with His during prayer, He will take us on a Radical Ride and show us some cool and amazing things.
Teach Me to Pray teaches us that there are different ways to pray. Praying memorized prayers like the “Our Father,” or the “Hail Mary” is good, but personal prayer is also a great way to share with Jesus what is on your heart. He wants to be your best buddy! This is a fun way to learn how to pray using the letters in the word Cat.Chat.
Theme: The Flight: Praying through the ups and downs
Virtue: Respect (treating others with extreme kindness and politeness)
Action Songs:
To the Sky (3:05)
Plug into Him (3:21)
Bible Verse Video:
“Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7-8
Theme Connections:
To The Sky reminds us that God is always there for us when we need him, especially when we are having trouble praying or when we are going through hard times. When we persevere, Jesus will ignite within us a new love for Him and He will carry us through the ups and downs of our life.
Plug into Him allows us to have a new perspective on prayer. We learn that the most important part of our day is our prayer time. When we plug into Jesus, He gives us the strength to live our lives to the fullest! When we read our Bibles and read about the lives of the Saints during our prayer time, we will get to know Jesus more and more.
Theme: The Landing: Putting prayer into action!
Virtue: Zeal (a strong desire and eagerness to do something good)
Action Songs:
I am Called (2:20)
Every Little Thing (2:33)
Bible Verse Video:
“Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Theme Connections:
I am Called is a song that helps us recognize the great calling we have, the calling to be a saint. This song also reminds us that we are called to be in God’s family in heaven, with all the angels and saints.
Every Little Thing reminds us that “Every Little Thing” we do throughout our day is an opportunity to give glory to God. We can be outside, inside, at school, at play or doing chores and through it all we can glorify our Lord by doing it all for Him. This song is also a summary of the Bible Verse of the Day.
Theme: Refueling: How to refuel our faith!
Virtue: Humility (considering others as more important than yourself; the opposite of being prideful)
Action Song:
Almighty God (3:02)
Review the Songs of the Week
Bible Verse Video:
“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Theme Connection:
Almighty God is a song about the wonders of God’s creation. When we travel, we are able to see so many beautiful things. We need to be reminded that God is an Amazing God and everything He created is to help us draw closer to Him! When we come to God in prayer, he refuels our hearts.

Extra Fun Activities
Play some of these activities in the last 5 or 10 minutes of your station.
Play the Cat.Chat VBS songs of the day during these activities.
Ideas for ages 4-6:
Musical Instruments: Help the kids express themselves through music and movement by supplying a box of fun dollar store instruments and a basket of scarves or ribbons. Rhythm sticks, shakers, cymbals and tambourines are fun instruments for younger children. You can also make your own instruments by putting pebbles or beans in sealed plastic containers.
Freeze Dance: Explain that whenever you turn the music off, everyone must freeze in whatever spot and position he’s in until the music starts up again. Children will get plenty of exercise from all the movement, but they’ll also get a kick out of freezing in strange positions.
Body Music: Teach children to make music with their bodies to imitate the sound of rain falling. Students learn to work together and are amazed by their own sounds. Seat the group in a circle and have the children join in tapping one finger on their opposite palm. As the whole group joins, increase to two fingers, then three fingers all the way up to five fingers to increase the intensity of the rain storm. Students can move to patting their knees and then stomping their feet. Reverse the pattern of music as the rainstorm settles back down to quiet. Ask the kids to experiment with different ways of making music with just their bodies, such as rubbing their hands together or snapping their fingers to change the sound of the rainstorm.
Matching Musical Chairs: Make a set of cards, with each pair of cards showing matching Prayer Clipart. Arrange chairs in the center of the room and tape one matching card face-up to each chair. Place the other matching cards in a bag and let each child choose a card. Invite the children to dance around the chairs while the music plays. When you turn off the music, the children must sit in the chair that matches the card they chose. Rather than eliminating children each round, ask them to pick new cards and play the game again.
Ideas for kids ages 7 & up:
Musical Memory: Group kids together in teams of five or more and have each team sit in a circle. Choose someone from each group to start and make a sound. (Ex. Rubbing their hands together, or snapping their fingers, stomping feet, whistling, etc…) The next player repeats the 1st sound and makes a new sound. The 3rd player repeats the 1st sound, 2nd sound and makes a new sound. Play continues to see who rocks at Musical Memory.
Name that Tune: (best played on the last couple days of VBS). Play 3 second segments from the VBS songs of the week. See who can name that song. (Opt.) Award prizes.
