HELPFUL HINTS

  • Review and prepare your materials for each lesson. We have provided you with several faith activities to choose from each day. Select the ones that best suit your needs and the ages of the children.

  • Ask the director for access to the Cathletics MY VBS online program. There you’ll find all the printables and Bible Verse Videos for your lesson. If you prefer, use the Action Song DVD that is included in the VBS kit to play the daily Bible Verse Videos.

  • Choose a quiet, enclosed room for the faith station. This will minimize distractions and help the children to focus on the lessons.

  • Talk to the director to ensure that each child will receive a VBS saint card as one of their daily take-home items. The group leaders can distribute them at the end of the day.

  • Purchase a set of Cat.Chat VBS saint posters to feature the Saint of the Day.

  • If the group sizes are larger than 15 to 20 kids, we recommend setting up two faith stations in two separate rooms, running at the same time. This will allow for a more intimate faith lesson for both the leader and the kids. Simply divide the kids into two groups and have a second faith leader run the other station.

  • If you are hoping to cover the majority of the content in each lesson, be sure to keep the teachings brief and the questions flowing by asking a response from only one or two children.

  • Pray before each lesson and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you teach the kids these important faith lessons.

  • Talk to the VBS Director about the possibility of giving each child a Bible to take home. For kids ages 4-8, we suggest the Catholic Book of Bible Stories (recipient of the Imprimatur) by Zonderkidz. (The imprimatur is an official declaration that a book is free of doctrinal and moral error.) For kids ages 9 and up, we suggest The Catholic Children’s Bible by St. Mary’s Press. Ascension also has a great variety of Bibles for kids.

Interesting fact: There are 73 books in the Catholic Bible versus 66 Books in the Protestant Bible. Right after the time of Jesus, Christians and Jews used slightly different versions of the Old Testament. The Christian version had 7 more books and extra parts of Esther and Daniel. During the Reformation, 1500 years later, Martin Luther used the Jewish version instead of the Christian one. The 7 books missing from the Protestant Bibles are Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, Judith, Tobit and 1 and 2 Maccabees.
