Day 5 Virtue Demo: JOY

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 4 cups vinegar
  • Medium size bowl
  • Baking tray (with sides)

Put the baking soda in the bowl and spread it flat.

Explain:

Today’s virtue is Joy.

Who can tell me what joys means? (A feeling of great happiness)

I am going to do a little demonstration about joy using baking soda and vinegar.

Ask:

Who can tell me what they think will happen if I mix this vinegar with the baking soda?

It will start to bubble up or bubble over.

Demonstrate:

Place the bowl of baking soda on top of a baking tray. Gradually pour four cups of vinegar evenly over the baking soda. Watch it bubble over!

Explain:

That’s what happens to us, when we allow God to fill us with His joy. We will bubble over with excitement and joy just like we saw here with the vinegar and baking soda.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, our VBS saint of the day said, “Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy with all the people you meet…”

What are some things we can do with the joy of Jesus?

We can brighten someone’s day, make someone laugh or smile, build the Kingdom of God, etc…

With the joy of Jesus in our hearts, we can make this a better world to live in.
