Day 3 Virtue Demo: FAITH
You’ll need:
- 1 deflated, clear balloon
Explain:
Today’s virtue is Faith.
Who can tell me what faith means? (Belief, trust in God, etc.)
I’m going to do a little demonstration about faith using this balloon.
Blow up the balloon.
Hold on to the end without releasing any air and without tying the end.
Ask:
What’s inside this balloon? (Air)
How do you know there’s air if you can’t see it?
It fills the balloon up, I saw you blow it, etc.
Explain:
Isn’t it interesting how we can’t see the air, but we know it’s there? It’s like our faith in God! We can’t see him, but we know he’s there! We can’t see Mary, our Heavenly Mother and Queen of Heaven and Earth, but we know she’s there watching over us, too.
Faith is believing in God, even though we can’t see Him with our eyes, and knowing that He is always there for us.
We make choices everyday to allow our faith in God to grow (blow a little more air into balloon) or to allow our faith in God to shrink/to become less. (remove some air from balloon)
Demonstrate:
How would a person make their faith in God shrink or disappear?
Each time the children mention an example, you can let a bit of air out of the balloon. (By not going to church, not praying, not reading our Bible, sinning, etc.)
How can we make our faith in God grow?
Blow up the balloon a little more each time the children give an example. (pray more, go to church, read our Bible, obey God, remain pure, love others, be joyful, etc.)
If possible, try to avoid popping the balloon.
If the balloon were to pop, you can add: Some of the saints had such amazing faith in God, that their hearts burst/exploded with love for God and others.
For fun you can add: It’s our faith in God that blasts us/connects us to Heaven! Release the balloon and watch it fly around!
Mary is the Queen of Heaven and Earth. She is the closest person to Jesus, our King. When we pray to Mary, she brings our prayers to her son Jesus.
