Day 2 Virtue Demo: PURITY
You’ll need:
- Clear pitcher filled with water
- Clear glass
- Cup of dirt
- Spoon
- Small container
Fill the glass with water.
Ask:
Who can tell me what purity means? (being pure, free from sin...)
Who would like to have a drink of this water? Choose one child to come up and have a drink. Child returns to their seat.
Put a few spoonfuls of dirt into the glass and stir.
Would anyone like to drink it now? No.
If someone says yes, you might want to say: It wouldn’t be safe for you to drink this water. You don’t really know what kind of unclean things could be in the dirt.
Explain:
We need to try our best to keep our hearts clean and pure and holy, but when we sin, our hearts can look like this mucky water.
Demonstrate:
What are some examples of sin that keeps our hearts from being pure?
Dump spoonfuls of dirt as the kids list examples. (fighting, stealing, cheating, saying bad words, not listening to my parents, watching bad movies, etc.)
How can we clean our mucky hearts?
Go to Reconciliation/Confession, ask God and others for forgiveness, give our sins to Jesus on the Cross, pray, etc.
Dump the mucky water into a container. Rinse the cup.
When we ask God’s forgiveness, He takes away all the dirt/our sins and He (The Holy Spirit) fills our hearts and we become fresh and clean once again.
Fill the glass with fresh water once again.
In order to become saints, we need to do our very best to keep our minds and our hearts pure for Jesus. It’ll also make it easier to practice all the other virtues.
Did you know that Mary, the Mother of Jesus remained pure and clean her whole life? She never sinned, not even once. Her heart remained clean and pure like the fresh water.
Splash some water on the kids for something fun.
